AJA Announces Corvid Ultra Support for Quantel Pablo Rio
If you're the global incumbent vendor of desktop and laptop processors, you're entitled to a fair bit of self-confidence. However, even industry giant Intel seems a bit ambitious in titling its new small-form-factor embedded system the ‘Next Unit of Computing' or ‘NUC'.Intel representatives were quick to clarify that the company is not in the business of selling complete systems – nor does it intend to enter that business with the NUC.
Our review model came pre-assembled by Auckland retailer Playtech. It included an 80GB Intel 310 Series mSATA SSD, 4GB of RAM in two 2GB SODIMMs, and Windows 8. You must either purchase a custom-assembled NUC from an OEM retailer or assemble it yourself, selecting your preferred SSD, RAM and operating system.
Intel's NUC is a way to convert any old HDMI-capable monitor or TV screen into a full-featured all-in-one PC. Its size, price and VESA mount make it equally suitable for offices, schools and retail applications such as kiosks and point-of-sale units. Combined with a Thunderbolt-connected external hard drive, it even offers a neat way to create a fully custom Windows or Linux-powered network attached storage box or media server.
