Exhaust Systems for Generators for RVs
One important aspect of on board power generation that comes with using an installed RV generator is what to do with generator exhaust. It should never be taken for granted that when using a generator that there will be fumes that must be piped away from the vehicle and other areas where people may be present. One way to make sure exhaust is sent in the opposite direction on those in an around the RV is to use exhaust pipe extensions.
It should be noted that some manufacturers do not endorse using pipe extensions for generator exhaust. The danger is in RV owners attempting to modify the piping so that their exhaust will be channeled out of the campsite but failing to properly fit the system to the genset and causing undue safety hazards to the area occupants.
Whenever a generator is burning a fuel whether it be regular gasoline, diesel or liquid propane fuels there will be carbon monoxide present. Carbon monoxide is a very dangerous emission that can cause serious injury or even a fatality. Manufacturers will generally go to great lengths along with the original equipment manufacturers (OEM) of RV tailpipes that are installed prior to sale in order to be sure that any buyer will have equipment that is safe and fitted properly. These OEM installed tailpipes will also minimize noise and increase RV generator performance as much as possible.
